THE OTHER THINGS -
SO BLASÉ
WORDS BY LEE BARBER
I’ve always been a big fan of John Blair and his vision when it comes to song writing and his craftsmanship. He just seems to effortlessly put together song after song filled with poetic lyrics, floating from his lips like a feather carrying the weight of all the political injustices of the world. New single from The Other Things suggests nothing will be changing any time soon.
The song stays true to the 90’s indie rock scene the band’s bio states they are inspired by, clanging guitars, powerful chord progressions, simple yet damn effective and driving solos, hard hitting rhythms. Everything you want from a feel good tune as we head into the glorious and sunny summer months… He says, looking out of the window at another downpour.
‘The band were listening to MBV, Ride more than they previously had done. I've always wanted to match the sound of early 90's shoegaze with an airy Stone Roses groove.’ John Blair says. ‘Essentially, this song is for anyone feeling that they have been held back by something (whether that's due to circumstance and environment, other people or yourself) but are still hoping that, somehow, their ambitions will be met in some way.’
When asked if the band is happy to see So Blasé out there for all to hear, John said, ‘I'm happy that the song is out there now - I tied the release date to the day I was going to see Oasis at Heaton Park, and this song has had more plays and streams in its first week than any of our previous releases - maybe that's down to Winnie the Dachshund!’
